Thomas University Art Department to Present Photography Exhibit at the Center
April 4th – May 2nd
Thomas University’s Art Department is currently presenting its second annual exhibition, featuring the work of students Susan Fredericks and Stephanie Whitfield. Organized by Assistant Professor of Art, Chris Baldridge, the show examines a variety of themes pertaining to contemporary life.
Thomas University and the Center hosted an opening reception on April 4th and music was provided by the Thomas University Jazz Ensemble.
“A Few of Our Favorite Things” is a very popular event. This exhibit is a Thomasville Cultural Center tradition. Patrons of the Center are provided an opportunity to experience art work of museum quality from the collections of their neighbors. The Center is delighted to be the venue for this celebration of the visual arts that is a gift from the community to the community.
“When we chose the subject for this show, we were not only thinking of water’s beauty, but of the local drought and the three states’ water wars. Judging from the many lovely and imaginative works we were offered, water is apparently a favorite subject with artists. In fact, we had an embarrassment of riches, and because of limitations of gallery space, we were forced to abandon our Mae West attitude that “too much of a good thing can be wonderful.” We have assembled a diverse show of beautiful photos, paintings and unusual objects. We hope that you enjoy this collection as much as we have enjoyed bringing it together.” Trudy Wheeler Chair of the show
